I love this synth, but it's time to part ways, I just never use it anymore.
Famous as the synth Antonio Badalamenti uses for the Twin Peaks soundtrack (the original Peaks, anyway). See its Vintage Synth site page for deeper info.
Minor cosmetic wear, typical scratches and scuffing, but nothing major. I am the second owner, the first kept it in studio, and so have I since buying it in San Diego in 2012. I've always kept a dust cover on it and generally taken good care. The outputs can be a bit noisy, but in a way that is typical of 80s synths, nothing unusual or difficult to deal with in studio.
It has been "modded" with a new firmware EPROM from Fred Vecoven, which updates much of its functionality to present-day standards.
The original JX-10 was notorious for bad MIDI implementation, SYSEX in particular, this mod fixes that, so it works more or less like present day synths and also no longer requires those awful cartridges to bulk load or dump patches.
The Vecoven mod also changes the sequencer to a much more useful arpeggiator, among other firmware improvements. Just google "vecoven jx-10" for more info, he has a dedicated site and further, more extreme mods available that can add stuff like PWM, an even deeper arp, other stuff, if you are into that.
I kept the original EPROM and it is easy to switch it back if you want it in 100% original factory state.
It also comes with an important, and VERY difficult to find, replacement for the FIP coil (cost me $100) that drives the little screen -- this part is known to fail on JX-10s, so I bought a replacement when I happened to come across one, so the FIP coil in this JX-10 can be replaced when it inevitably fails. For now the screen works fine and is nice and bright, but having a replacement ready to go will be a GREAT thing to have once it starts to fade.
Also comes with original power cable and a spare one as well, and a new battery for when the internal one needs replacement.
These are going for an average of around $700 before shipping on fleaBay and other gear consignment sites these days. I am asking $650, and will consider reasonable offers. I will of course let you check it out thoroughly if you come to see it, and can give a crash course in its SYSEX handling, etc.
Thanks.
